Eligibility to submit an application for dorm residence

As of the winter semester of October 2016, new criteria will be applied for applicants and new admissions to graduate dormitories at the Technion The new criteria will not be applied to trainees whose application for housing in graduate dormitories was approved before the spring semester of 2016, inclusive.
An application for admission / extension of dormitory housing must be submitted in accordance with the registration dates for graduate dormitories.

Entitlement

Eligibility for dormitories will be determined according to academic and socio-economic considerations (which are not necessarily interdependent) as well as according to the inventory of the rooms / apartments in a given semester.

Registration for Graduate Dormitories

General Eligibility

  • The Graduate School is responsible to determine eligibility for dorm residence and the placement into dorms of students studying towards master’s degrees and PhDs only.
  • Scholarship recipients who do not own or whose spouses do not own an apartment, and who receive three or more scholarship portions, may submit a request.
  • Requests may be submitted for a period of one to two semesters. Requests will not be accepted for less than one semester.
  • A dorm resident must be a scholarship recipient throughout the term of eligibility for residence.
  • A dorm request can be submitted for individuals, couples and families.
  • Married couples must attach to the dorm residence application a copy of their marriage certificate or a copy of an updated identity document that states that they are married.
  • Unmarried couples who are in “domestic partnerships” are required to sign a Declaration of Unmarried Couples.
  • Couples who have shared an apartment for at least seven months before signing the declaration may request dorm residence. The declaration signed by an attorney must be attached to the request form for dorm residence.
Academic Eligibility

  • A dorm resident must be a scholarship recipient throughout the term of eligibility for residence.
  • Scholarship recipients who do not own or whose spouses do not own an apartment, and who receive three or more scholarship portions, may submit a request.
  • Master students applying for graduate school dormitories:
    1. Master students applying for graduate school dormitories:
      • For new students in their first semester of their studies: overall undergraduate degree Average of 80 and above.
      • For Master degree students who are in their second semester onwards: Master’s degree Average during their studies of 85 and above.
    2. Doctoral students applying for graduate school dormitories:
      • For new students in their first semester of their studies: overall Master’s degree Average of 85 and above.
      • For Master degree students who are in their second semester onwards: Master’s degree Average during their studies of 85 and above.
  • Eligibility for dorms is determined based on academic considerations as well as socioeconomic considerations (which are not necessarily interdependent), and based on the availability of rooms / apartments in a given semester.
Socioeconomic Eligibility

    • A dorm resident must be a scholarship recipient throughout the term of eligibility for residence.
    • Scholarship recipients who do not own or whose spouses do not own an apartment, and who receive three or more scholarship portions, may submit a request.
    • Eligible scholarship recipients based on gross monthly income per person.
    • Eligibility for dorms is determined based on  academic considerations as well as socioeconomic considerations (which are not necessarily interdependent), and based on the availability of rooms / apartments in a given semester.

    Dorms for candidates in the admissions process

    An applicant to studies must submit a request form for dorm residence based on the dates provided in the section: schedules.

    The request will be addressed on the dates provided in the Section:  schedules, and provided that all of the following conditions are met:

    • The candidate was finally accepted for studies at the Graduate School.
    • The academic department has provided the Scholarship Office at the School with a recommendation to provide a scholarship for the candidate (the candidate is responsible to coordinate with the academic department the transfer of the recommendation for the scholarship after the student receives final acceptance to studies at the school).
Dorms for the residents – extension of dorm residence

  • A dorm resident who wishes to extend residence by an additional semester/year will submit a dorm residence extension request based on the dates provided in  schedules based on the date on which the residence concludes or once per year (the date of the conclusion of residence approved appears in the most recent approval of residence letter sent).
  • Requests may be submitted for a period of one to two semesters. Requests will not be accepted for less than one semester.
  • The request to extend the dorm residence will be discussed with all of the requests submitted.
  • A dorm resident who concludes his master’s studies, is registered for PhD studies in the Graduate School and continues his studies in sequence will submit an extesnion request form for dorms based on the dates in schedules. The request will state an estimated date for the submission of the final paper and the completion of the degree and attach confirmation of the academic department of the continued granting of the scholarship in PhD studies.
  • About one month before the beginning of the semester, a scholarship recipient must submit the final paper in order to be accepted in principle to PhD studies and receive the “bordering” scholarship.

End of Master’s degree and enrollment to a PhD Track (indirect route) Up to a total of four years for both degrees/ Up to a maximum Total of 8 semesters for both degrees: The Number of semesters during the Master’s degree + number of semesters in the partial Doctorate.
Transferring the contract between spouses Dormitory residence duration will be calculated according to the maximum residence duration (Pending on the degree studied) each spouse is entitled to.
This period will be deducted from the residence durations used by the contract holder, and the new contract entitlement (for the new dormitory applicant), will be possible only for the balance duration within the current degree (if exists).
  • Dormitory residence duration is calculated in full semesters only.
  • The semester count will begin from the semester entrance to the dormitories.
  • Entrance to the dormitories during the semester, will be counted as residence in a full semester.
  • Extensions for partial semesters in the dormitories, will not be granted.
Extensions

  • The Residency duration in the graduate dormitories is strict and can not be extended.
  • The Extensions will not be granted due to all types of approved vacations and / or training and/ or cinfrences abroad and/or Internships.
