Neve America Dormitories, building 128
This place—building 128, Neve America—was my dormitory. Just below our living room is the bomb shelter. One day, when I heard a siren and hid in the shelter, I realized that safety cannot be taken for granted. Danger is all around us. It is not an ordinary thing to be able to sit in one’s office and work peacefully. We should cherish the peaceful time. Having a sense of crisis can make people think more deeply about survival and development. It reminded me of a saying from Mencius, a famous Chinese Confucian philosopher: Anxiety and labor can cause people (or countries) to survive and develop, while comfort and enjoyment can lead people (or countries) to perish.
