How does a new student register for the dormitory?

Winter Semester

Students who are not residents of Haifa and the surrounding area and who have not previously studied at the Technion, can request dormitories when registering at the Technion or through the online application on the portal until June 30th. After June 30th,  the application will be discussed based on the criteria and on the basis of available space.

Students who are residents of Haifa or the surrounding areas (for a list of regions in Haifa’s surroundings) and former students are to fill out an application form and attach the required documents, The response will be dependent on socioeconomic criteria and space availability.

Spring Semester

New students residents of Haifa and the surrounding area (the list of areas appears on the dormitory website) – will fill out the form at the time it will be published on the website.
Including students who studied in the past and start studying in another faculty or return to the same faculty.
New students who are not residents of Haifa and the surrounding area will register immediately upon their acceptance to the Technion and until January 10 on the registration and admission website or on the website newstud.technion.ac.il
After these dates, they will fill out an application on the dormitory website. The application will be discussed on a space-available basis.

What is the registration process for a new reserve student?

New reserve students, who are not residents of Haifa and the surrounding area, who are admitted to the Technion until October 5, can request dormitories when registering for the Technion or through the registration website for new students.
New applicants who are residents of Haifa and the surrounding area to the list of settlements around Haifa or applicants admitted to the Technion after October 5, can request dormitories on the dormitory website and their eligibility will be checked based on socioeconomic criteria and on the basis of available space.

What is the registration process for a new medical student?

Those admitted to medicine who are not residents of Haifa and the surrounding area, who are admitted to the Technion until August 15, can request dormitories when registering for the Technion or through the registration website for new students.
New physicians residents of Haifa and the surrounding area who are admitted to the Technion until August 15th can request dormitories on the dormitories website and their eligibility will be checked based on socioeconomic criteria and on the basis of available space.

Does a student belonging to one of the army's special programs or the excellent program need to submit a normal application form?

A student belonging to one of the special programs must fill out an application form on the dormitory website, during the registration dates published on the website. Instead of attaching the parents’ payslips, you can fill out a special programs declaration form and attach it to the application form.

When do you get an answer for the dormitories for the winter semester?

A reply is sent via email at the beginning of August and it includes the placement in the dormitory, date for confirmation/cancellation of eligibility, entry dates for the dormitory and other details.

When do you get an answer for the dormitories for the spring semester?
+

A reply is sent via email at the beginning of February and includes the assignment to the dormitory, date for confirmation/cancellation of eligibility, entry dates for the dormitory and other details.

Who is recommended to file an appeal against a negative decision for the dormitory?
+

We recommend submitting an appeal only if there has been a change in any data since the application for the dormitory was submitted, or there is a special personal/medical condition that could not be reported on the application form.

When do you file an appeal?

An appeal can be filed up to seven days from the day of receiving the answer.

When and how do you get an answer to the appeal?
+

The sooner you submit the appeal, the faster you will send an answer.

Who can be contacted when there is a medical condition that requires a certain dormitory adjustment?

Students who have registered for the dormitories and request an adjustment in light of their medical condition are asked to fill out:
Application form for a medical diagnosis (pdf)
Waiver of medical confidentiality (pdf)
The forms should be sent to the email: med_requests@technion.ac.il together with relevant medical documents.
The information will be forwarded to the Technion doctor and an answer will be sent by email from the office.
The Technion doctor’s decision is final and decisive.

Are there accessible dormitories for students with disabilities?

In the Technion dormitories, several apartments are adapted for disabled people who move around in wheelchairs. The apartments include the access ways to the apartment, accessible rooms (including bedrooms, toilets and showers) as well as free movement throughout the apartment. These apartments are located in the Mizrah New Dormitory, in the Kfar Hasmakha Dormitory and in the Kfar Mishtalimim Dormitory. A student who needs an accessible apartment should contact the dormitory office (during the dormitory registration periods) and attach an appropriate permit. I didn't get a dormitory because I didn't pass the entrance threshold - what does that mean?

This means that your socioeconomic status is better defined in relation to students who submitted a dormitory application at the same time as you. Dormitory applications are checked according to the criteria and answers are given based on available places and socio-economic status. It is important to note that despite the negative answer you will automatically appear on the waiting list and you can track your location through the dormitory website.

When will the waiting list be published?

A waiting list is expected to be published at the beginning of September for the winter semester, and at the beginning of February for the spring semester.

Where am I on the waiting list?
+

As soon as the waiting list is published, you can check your position on the list on the dormitory website under the “Application status” tab.

What are the chances of getting a dormitory from the waiting list?
+

A student who did not get a dormitory because he did not reach the entrance threshold, has a good chance of getting a dormitory until the beginning of the semester. A student who received any kind of disqualification, financial or excess semesters, etc., may receive dormitories after the beginning of the semester, if students who received dormitories waive their eligibility and make room for students on the waiting list.

When do couples/couples with children receive their placement in the dormitory?

The placement for the type of residence will be sent via email during the month of September, for the winter semester.
for spring semester during the month of February.

Can new students change the type of dormitory they received?
+

New students can submit an application to change the type of dormitory they received about two weeks after the beginning of the semester. It is not possible to change the placement before the beginning of the semester.

Until when can the dormitory eligibility be confirmed/cancelled?
+

Upon receiving the answer from the dormitory office about the eligibility for the dormitory, the last date by which the eligibility can be confirmed/cancelled appears.

How do I request to live with friends?
+

In the winter semester, placement requests can be filled out on the dormitory website in the “Confirmation and Placement Requests” tab. If you would like to live with a friend, you will need to make sure that you both get the same type of residence.

What equipment is there in the apartment / room?
+

On the dormitory website under “types of dormitories” the equipment available in the apartments and rooms is listed.

What equipment can you bring from home?
+

You can bring personal equipment, bedding, kitchen utensils, small electrical appliances to the dormitory, it is recommended not to bring expensive objects to the dormitory.

When do they start charging me for the dormitory and on what date is the rent payment due?
+

Billing starts when you get a key to the room. Entry to the dormitory between the 1st and 15th of the month – you pay for a whole month, entry from the 16th of the month until the end – you pay for half a month. A student who leaves the dormitory during the semester will pay rent until the end of that semester.

On the 10th of each month, the payment for SHKD will be collected from the standing order received in the tuition department

Can I come see the residence I got?

You can come and see the dormitory areas. Since the dormitories are staffed throughout the year, entering the rooms is not possible. Information and photos of the dormitory can also be found on our website.
