Student’s Feedback:
- Academic Feedback:
I was enrolled in the architecture program. Course registration was somewhat complicated, as I had to apply manually for each class by contacting professors directly for approval. The limited number of English-taught courses also restricted my options. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the courses I took. The professors were supportive and accommodating of my situation as a foreign student, especially in studio courses where they allowed flexibility with model-making due to my limited access to tools. The workload was demanding and comparable to that at the Technion, even if the academic level was slightly less rigorous.
I was also proud to demonstrate the high level of technological and parametric design skills I acquired at the Technion. My peers were often surprised at my ability to use advanced software and creative approaches, which emphasized the strength of my academic background. - Campus Life:
From the very beginning, SKKU provided a well-organized and supportive framework. I received constant email updates regarding every step, including visa applications, residence permits, and accommodation. Although the process was sometimes stressful, the university made it as smooth as possible. They arranged my housing in the newest dormitory building on campus, where all international students were placed together. This arrangement made social integration easier and allowed us to quickly build friendships. - Challenges and Insights:
- The main challenge was the ongoing bureaucracy. From the first acceptance letters to the very end of the semester, I was constantly dealing with documents, visas, and permits. In South Korea, much of this bureaucracy is conducted in Korean, which required me to ask for help often. I learned that future students must be well-organized, patient, and meticulous in following instructions. Another challenge was adapting to daily life, such as figuring out how to use the laundry system, which required a specific app and online payment setup. These small but significant adjustments highlight how important it is to remain open-minded and resourceful.
- General Feedback:
my exchange at SKKU was a deeply rewarding experience. Beyond the academic studies, it allowed me to grow personally, adapt to new environments, and represent both Israel and the Technion abroad. Many students and professors asked me about the situation in Israel, and I always did my best to respond thoughtfully and to share a balanced and human perspective. Some even expressed genuine concern for my safety when tensions rose in the Middle East.
I would highly recommend SKKU as an exchange destination. The support system, combined with the opportunity to immerse oneself in Korean culture and meet students from around the world, makes it a valuable and memorable experience. - Message to Future Students:
Be prepared for a long and detailed bureaucratic process; keep track of every step carefully. Do not hesitate to ask for help from locals, peers, or the international office staff. Expect a cultural learning curve, even in daily routines, and give yourself time to adjust. Take advantage of the chance to connect with other exchange students who are experiencing similar challenges.
