Eligibility to submit an application for dorm residence

  • The Graduate Students Dormitories Office is responsible for determining and approving eligibility for residence, as well as for all dormitory assignments for students studying toward Master’s and Doctoral degrees only.
  • Students who receive 3 scholarship portions or more, and who do not own an apartment, either personally or through their spouse/partner, are eligible to submit an application.
  • Eligibility for dormitory housing is determined according to academic considerations and socioeconomic considerations, which are not necessarily dependent on one another, as well as according to the availability of rooms/apartments in a given semester.
  • Applications may be submitted for a period of at least one semester. Applications for a period shorter than one semester will not be accepted.
  • A dormitory resident must be a scholarship recipient throughout the entire period of eligibility for residence.
  • Applications may be submitted for single students, couples, and couples with children.
  • Married couples are required to attach to their dormitory housing application a copy of their marriage certificate or a copy of an updated ID card indicating that they are married.
  • Unmarried couples who are recognized as common-law partners, or who hold a partnership certificate from the “New Family” organization, are required to sign a declaration for the purpose of applying for dormitory housing for unmarried couples (docx), including the explanatory page regarding common-law partners (pdf).

Maximum Duration of Residence in the Dormitories

Study Program Maximum Duration of Residence
Master’s Degree Up to a maximum of 4 semesters or completion of studies, whichever comes first
Doctoral Degree Up to a maximum of 6 semesters or completion of studies, whichever comes first
Direct / Special Doctoral Track Up to 8 semesters or completion of studies, whichever comes first
Transfer of eligibility between spouses/partners The duration of residence will be calculated according to the longer period of residence to which one of the spouses/partners is entitled, in accordance with the degree studied. From this period, the period of residence already used by the contract holder will be deducted. The eligibility of the new contract holder, who is submitting the application, will apply only to the remaining period of eligibility in the current degree, if such a period remains.
  • The calculation of eligibility for the duration of residence is determined according to the degree studied at the time of entry into the Graduate Students Dormitories.
  • The duration of residence in the dormitories will be calculated in full semesters only.
  • The counting of semesters will begin from the semester in which the student enters the dormitories.
  • Entry into the dormitories during a semester will be counted as a full semester of residence. The duration of residence does not refer to the student’s academic seniority at the Technion, but only to housing eligibility according to the date on which the student entered the dormitories.

Requests for Extension of Residence

  • A dormitory resident who wishes to extend their residence beyond the date stated in the most recent dormitory letter they received must submit a dormitory housing application on this website, according to the dates specified in the “Dates” tab, and in accordance with the approved end date of their stay.
  • The approved end date of residence appears in the most recent housing approval letter that was sent. The request for extension of residence in the dormitories will be brought up for review.
  • The duration of residence is fixed, and no extension will be granted beyond the periods specified above.
  • No extension will be granted due to any type of approved leave and/or travel abroad for training and/or internships.
  • No extension will be granted for residence for part of a semester.
